Who We Are |
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was founded May 11, 1929, at the Faculty Women's Club at The University of Texas in Austin. Dr. Annie Webb Blanton, member of the faculty of The University of Texas and a former state superintendent of public instruction, conceived the idea of an honorary organization for women educators and selected 11 educators from Texas to help her create The Delta Kappa Gamma Society.
On October 27, 1934, North Carolina became the seventh state to join the organization and thus was given the seventh letter of the Greek Alphabet, Eta. North Carolina membership is over 4,500 with 104 Eta State Chapters. |
Our History |
Zeta Chapter was chartered June 1, 1939, at the Robert E. Lee Hotel in Forsyth County with twelve charter members. Louise Futrell and Grace Brunson, who had previously been inducted into the state society, spearheaded the formation of Zeta Chapter. Today, Zeta boasts over fifty members with representatives from a wide variety of educational backgrounds.
